Former president John Dramani Mahama has advised Africans and residents of Ghana to remain optimistic about their country and the continent as a whole since both have brighter futures.
He made this and other remarks on Friday, January 27 during a Chatham House speech in the UK titled “Africa’s Strategic Priorities and Global Role.”
He recognized the challenging circumstances that Ghanaians and Africans are currently facing as a result of the economic slump, poor governance, and insecurity but was quick to add that it would be unhealthy to “brood over the present with despair.“
Mahama declared, “I am an eternal believer in the potential and good energies of Africa and her youth.”
The 2024 elections will be a great opportunity to wrest control from the current New Patriotic Party government and restore the nation and its economy, according to the 2020 presidential candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress.
“The campaigning phase will provide an opportunity for more in-depth conversations about Ghana’s future and what must be done to rescue us from the current economic crisis and prevent a repeat. The opposition in Ghana is extremely clear about its goals for the country and how to build the Ghana that we all desire, according to Mahama.
Prior to the 2024 elections, the NDC has set May 27 as the date for its presidential and parliamentary primaries. Mahama hasn’t firmly announced that he wants to run for flagbearer yet, but speculations are swirling that he might eventually enter the race.
