Election 2024: National Peace Council implores NDC to rejoin IPAC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been exhorted by the National Peace Council to rejoin the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).

Joana Adzoa Opare, the National Peace Council’s Chairperson of the Conflict Resolution Committee, claims that the council is always urging the NDC to come back.

On January 26, 2023, he informed the leaders of several political parties of this and said “Specifically for the NDC to work towards a return to IPAC, the National Peace Council seeks to promote collectiveness in addressing any unforeseen or anticipated challenges that will enable full participation of all political parties in the Inter-Party Advisory Committee meetings. And we are all aware of how crucial this is.”

The NDC abstained from the IPAC meeting on Wednesday, April 21, 2020, which was held to discuss the 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections.

The party claimed it denied the Electoral Commission’s (EC) invitation because the Jean Mensah-led EC conducted the 2020 general elections with a lack of transparency, repugnant duplicity, and obvious bias in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“It is the considered view of the NDC,” said Johnson Asiedu Nketia in a statement, “that the current leadership of the Electoral Commission who oversaw the manipulation of the 2020 general elections and the stolen verdict that resulted from same lack the integrity, credibility, and impartiality to lead any such discussions or review of the very elections they rigged.”

The NDC claimed to have carefully reviewed the EC’s questionable role in the rigging of the 2020 general election.
