Ghanaian footballer sentenced to 12 years in prison after defiling 13-year-old girl three times in Accra court
A 27-year-old football player was found guilty of defiling a 13-year-old girl in Mamprobi three times, and an Accra Circuit Court sentenced him to 12 years in prison.
According to the Ghana News Agency, Richard Mensah was found guilty on three counts of defilement by the court presided over by Mrs. Christina Cann.
The now-convict shared a home with the victim, the complainant, who is a trader and the victim’s sister, and Chief Inspector Simon Tekpor, the head of the prosecution team, testified in court.
On March 11, 2022, Mensah took advantage of the victim when his fiancée was away attending a funeral in Accra’s Akraman neighborhood. He encouraged the victim to help his kids with their homework in his room.
The victim, according to the prosecution, ordered the convict’s children to stay outside while he remained in the victim’s room after helping them with their homework.
While in the room, Mensah then undressed the victim and had sex with her through the vagina and anus.
“On March 12, 2022, it said at about 4:00 pm the victim was in the company of Mensah’s children and Mensah again invited her into his room and had sex with her.
“The prosecution said on March 14, 2022, at about 1:00 pm, the accused called the victim and asked her to assist his girlfriend to prepare food.
“The victim obliged and after the food was prepared, Mensah’s girlfriend went out.
“The prosecution said Mensah took advantage of his girlfriend’s absence and had sex with the victim,” the GNA reports
The victim’s sister, who is the complainant, was looking for her around 9:00 p.m. on the third day of the abuse and discovered her in Mensah’s room, which is what revealed Mensah’s criminal acts. The victim then admitted that they had slept together.
After that, the victim’s sister filed an official complaint to the police, which resulted in Mensah’s arrest and prosecution.
