Sad News: Captain Kojo Tsikata has passed on

Captain Kojo Tsikata, former Head of National Security and Foreign Affairs of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), has joined his forefathers.

According to accounts, the former member of the Council of State had been ill for some time before his death. So far, no cause of death has been revealed.

Tsikata was sent to the Congo with Major General Ankrah as part of a Ghanaian military deployment under Kwame Nkrumah’s orders to support the Prime Minister, Pan-Africanist and anti-neocolonialist Patrice Lumumba. He later went to Conakry, Guinea, to see Nkrumah. On his arrival, he was caught, jailed, and sentenced to death as a suspect in an assassination conspiracy against Nkrumah.

Samora Machel, a liberation fighter, intervened to have him pardoned. Samora accompanied him to Mozambique. Later, in 1964, he arrived in Angola to join MPLA fighters and internationalist militants from Cuba.

He was appointed by Jerry Rawlings’ administration in 1982. He was in charge of national security since 1982 and then joined the Rawlings administration on January 21, 1995. He was a member of the state council and a captain in the Ghana Army.

He was also a member of Ghana’s Council of State. In the year 1995, he was requested to join a negotiation delegation that included Ibn Chambas, the then-Deputy Foreign Minister, and Brigadier General Agyemfra, who was joined by Harry Mouzillas from the African Union.
