The partner of Christian Atsu requests rescue equipment

The partner of missing footballer Christian Atsu, who has been staying in a wrecked building since the Monday earthquake in Turkey, has requested equipment to be provided there.

According to reports, Atsu, a player for the Turkish team Hatayspor, was rescued “with injuries” from a building.

But a day later, his agent said it was true that nobody knows where he is.

Claire Rupio, a resident of Newcastle, United Kingdom, told BBC News, “I still pray and believe that he is alive.”

Rupio says the conflicting information regarding his whereabouts “confusing” and “very shocking.”

“I make a plea to the Hatayspor club, the Turkish government, and the British government to bring out the equipment to rescue victims from the wreckage, especially my partner and my children’s father.

They can’t get that deep without the equipment, so they need it to get out. And the time is running out.

Since the subsequent earthquake and its aftershocks, more than 21,000 people have died in southern Turkey and northern Syria.

Since the earthquake on Monday, Atsu and Taner Savut, the sporting director of Atsu’s club Hatayspor, have not been seen.

Atsu was reportedly found alive, according to Hatayspor’s vice president, however other club officials and Atsu’s agent Nana Sechere claimed they were unable to confirm this.

According to Rupio, the agent is currently in Turkey and attempting to enter the Hatay building where Atsu is situated.

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Appeal will receive the $1 million donation the Premier League has announced in order to provide help to those in need in Turkey and Syria.

Additionally, this weekend’s Premier League games will wear black armbands for players and match officials as a gesture of respect for those who perished or were negatively impacted by these awful events.

The 31-year-old Atsu played 107 games for Newcastle and also had time at Chelsea, Everton, and Bournemouth.
