The grandfather of hiplife, Reggie Rockstone is expressing his concern about the disrespect of young people on the social networking service Twitter.
He mentioned that his complete disregard for elders, including himself, has led to many unpleasant encounters on Twitter.
Reggie Rockstone, speaking on Showbiz 927, recently noted that it is unfortunate that people are so quick to downplay the contributions of industry pioneers.
“Sometimes I worry because young people go on Twitter and say the most trashy things to an old Gee. And I said to myself, do you realize that I am the most important person to young people? I am the reason you have a voice. I’m the reason you can wear your dreadlocks. You can do this and do that,” he said in the interview.
Reggie Rockstone pointed out that before his BBC feature on Hiplife, the genre had already been documented by Professor Jesse Weaver Shipley in the book Living the Hiplife. However, Ghana never bothered to look into it.
The veteran hiplife artist once wowed audiences with songs like Keep Your Eyes on the Road, Plan Ben, 3y3 mo d3 anaa? Among many others, “we need to step up our game or we won’t have a seat at the table”.
