HON LINDA A. OCLOO TOURS IMPACTED COMMUNITIES IN THE LOWER VOLTA BASIN OF THE SHAI-OSUDOKU CONSTITUENCY.
The Hon. MP visited the Lower Volta Basin’s impacted areas. The increased water spillage from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams made the excursion necessary.
The communities visited yesterday include:
(a) Atsavanya
(b) Kadzanya
(c) Dormeliam
(d) Djorkpo and
(e) Abuviekpong
In the affected towns, the rate of devastation was startling. Many residences and businesses have been submerged. The MP and the chairman of the constituency interacted with those who were impacted and provided education alongside a team from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), SODA.
NADMO spent a lot of time talking about the evacuation, relief, and resettlement procedures. To prevent any impending tragedy, fast action is needed in communities like Djorkpo and Abuviekpong. While water transportation (larger boats) is being constructed for Abuviekpong to assess the extent of the spill, immediate evacuation preparations are being made in Djorkpo.
The constituency chairman Isaac Kofi Kportsu, some CEC members, and a few branch executives from the constituency accompanied the MP on the tour. The most impacted villages received some donations of humanitarian supplies.
The MP urged the affected communities to adhere to the necessary precautions and directions assigned under the spillage and work hard towards evacuation.
