For failing to produce Sedinam Tamakloe to face charges, the state has ordered Alex Mould, the former CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), and Gavivina Tamakloe, who served as sureties, to pay GHc5 million.

The former CEO of MASLOC is being sued by the state for financial fraud, but the trial procedure is problematic because she has been out of the country for 16 months.

According to reports, the accused, who had her request for a spinal cord assessment granted, is now asking for at least another nine months to have eye surgery.

The assigned judge, Justice Afia Serwaah Asare-Botwe, asserted that the court could no longer afford to pamper the accused.

According to starrfm.com.gh, Justice Asare-Botwe, who is currently a Justice of the Court of Appeal, remarked that a 16-month delay was more than adequate and that no one who was being fair would likely object about it.

When the case was up for hearing on Tuesday, January 24, the judge suggested that the suspect, who was thought to have jumped bail, may have “chosen to stay for medical tourism.”

As a result of their failure to present the former MASLOC head, the court then issued an order declaring that “the bail bond executed by the two sureties be forfeited to the Republic.”

On February 7, two weeks from today, the court will review the trial in absentia.

Along with Daniel Axim, a former operations manager at MASLOC, Sedina Attionu Tamekloe is accused of stealing, violating the public procurement act, and willfully inflicting financial harm to the State on 78 counts total.

The two have entered a not guilty plea to all counts and have denied any involvement.

The prosecution alleges that Mrs. Attionu committed several crimes that resulted in claimed theft and monetary loss.

She is accused of stealing GHC 500,000 from a business that received MASLOC assistance in 2014.

Additionally, the prosecution claims that she stole a portion of the GH1.46 million intended to help Kantamanto Market fire victims in 2013 in accordance with a decree from then-President John Mahama.
