Government has threatens to seize our terminals over fare increments – Drivers’ Union
Drivers who are members of the True Drivers Union are claiming that the government has threatened to seize control of their terminals if they dare to raise rates in response to increases in fuel, spare parts, and other consumable costs.
The public relations officer for the union, Yaw Berima, said that the officials who have been making threats claim they won’t stand by and let any driver union undermine the government’s popularity during an interview with Kojo Marfo on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo show.

“The government has informed us that if we continue to increase lorry fares and bring them disgrace, they will close all our terminals in the country and render us jobless,” he divulged.
Yaw Berma stated that the drivers had chosen to keep quiet in order to maintain their transport company in order to survive, despite being shaken by the threats.
“All of the lands are owned by the various assembly; we do not operate on any of their territories. If someone claims they can chew a calabash, you can’t dispute with someone who has previously chewed a crab.
“We cannot dispute with someone who has the ability to bring down banks and radio stations about their ability to do so. We’ve made the decision to keep quiet,” he stated.
But Barima took a strong stance against the administration, claiming that in the wake of such threats, no rational driver would still back the ruling party.
He continued by threatening to withhold power from any other party that wins the elections, a threat that the electorate would not accept. He addressed this to Hon. Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Agriculture.
“Those juvenile remarks and intimidations won’t hold water in the approaching general election. Ghanaians will cast their ballots, but they won’t support you. Not a single sound driver will support the NPP. He ventured to declare, “We will see what happens in the country if another candidate wins and the government says they won’t give him the mandate.”
