Ghana Police arrest 4 PRESEC Legon students, 2 adults for staging kidnap, demanding GH₵320K
Four Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC) pupils and two adults have been taken into custody by the Ghana Police for allegedly planning the kidnapping of one of the kids.
Preliminary investigations revealed, in a police statement released on Friday, April 5, 2024, that the kidnapping was a ruse by the gang to allow one of the students to demand money from his parents in order to finance his trip overseas.
“The Ghana Police Service has detained six (6) people, including four (4) juvenile students from Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, Accra, for fabricating an abduction incident. The arrests were made as a result of an intelligence-led operation and investigation.” Among the six (6), Isaac Kissi Adjei, also known as Kofi Black, and Courage Teiko, also known as Timmy, are the two (2) grownups.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the juveniles, in an attempt to extort money from his parents to enable him to travel abroad, conspired with the others to stage the kidnapping incident. In the process, they demanded an amount of Three Hundred and Forty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵340,000.00) as ransom from the alleged victim’s parents,” the police statement said.
The minors and their adult accomplices, according to the police, were able to get GH₵20,000 out of the total ransom sought prior to their arrest.
“The investigation also revealed that the minors and the other two were able to obtain GH¢20,000.00, or twenty thousand Ghana Cedis, out of the total ransom demanded.”
“In line with best practice, the identities of the juveniles have been withheld and their parents and guardians have been duly informed, as Police investigations into the incident continue,” the statement added.
A 17-year-old student at Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, was reportedly abducted earlier this week and held for ransom by unidentified criminals.
The report claims that on March 28, 2024, as the student was traveling home from university on the Easter holiday, he was abducted.
The claimed abductors reportedly threatened to sell the abducted students’ body parts if the family did not give the enormous 34 million naira (about GH₵340,000) ransom requested by the kidnappers.
The student’s family, desperate, negotiated a lower ransom of GH₵20,000 after receiving pictures of the student’s injuries from his captors and threats of harvesting his organs if they did not cooperate.
The kidnappers allegedly demanded full payment of GH₵300,000 cedis before releasing the youngster, even though the family had given the money via mobile money.
