According to reports, Christian Atsu’s body was flown from Turkey to Ghana for his ultimate voyage to the place where there is no turning back.

Atsu was a winger for numerous European teams, such as Newcastle United and Chelsea, as well as the Ghanaian national team. He was also announced as being dead early on Saturday.

During the course of more than 11 days, during which the earthquake claimed the lives of roughly 45,000 people, Atsu’s dead body was discovered beneath the debris. On February 18, 2023, Christian Atsu, who was 31 years old, passed dead.

His agent has regrettably verified this. The former Premier League player, who played for both Newcastle United and Chelsea, vanished on Tuesday, February 7, following the dreadful earthquake that rocked Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 6.

As conflicting reports regarding the player’s whereabouts dominated tabloids throughout the world, the early Saturday morning discovery of his death has brought sombre confirmation of the tragic news from his agent. 

On February 5 at home against Turkish Super Lig rivals Kasimpasa, he scored a last-second winner for his current club Hatayspor just hours before the terrible incident took place. Atsu changed sides in September of last year and was present in Antakya at the time of the earthquake earlier this month.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce to all well-wishers that tragically Christian Atsu’s body was retrieved this morning,” his agent Nana Sechere stated. My sincere sympathies are extended to his family and close friends. I’d like to use this chance to express my gratitude for everyone’s prayers and support.

“I beg that everyone would kindly respect the privacy of the family during this very difficult time while we make the required arrangements.”
