Tension exists in Denkyira Ayanfuri when a 22-year-old recent graduate of Adisadel College is killed by being stoned. 

Tension is growing between the villages of Denkyira Ayanfuri and Fobinso in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region as a result of the 22-year-old man who was reportedly as an Adisadel College graduate being stoned to death in Cape Coast.

The dead, Evans Wireko, also known as Nkwantabisa, was reportedly stoned to death in Denkyira Fobinso because of his claimed involvement in a robbery incident at a local galamsey site, according to a report by citinewsroom.com.

Before being arrested and killed, he reportedly went to the Denkyira Fobinso neighborhood to participate in galamsey festivities.

On Friday, February 17, 2023, at a galamsey location, the young man was accused of being the one who attacked a member of the Fobinso community. He was detained and brought to the chief’s residence.

According to Citi News sources, the dead denied any guilt, but the chief of Fobinso allegedly ordered that he be dealt with, prompting enraged citizens to stone Wireko to death in the middle of the town.

After a tip about Wireko being lynched, family relatives of the dead who are now calling for justice claimed he had already passed away by the time they arrived to Fobinso from Ayanfuri.

His dead body was delivered to the police, who then received a formal complaint and launched an inquiry into the occurrence.

The Abusuapanyin of Ayanfuri and Akwamuhene of the Denkyira Traditional Council, Nana Kwasi Kwarteng, is pleading for the quick capture and prosecution of the young man’s killers, claiming that his intervention stopped the youth of Fobinso from retaliating in order to exact revenge for the death of Wireko.

Kwasi Anin Castro, an assemblyman from Ayanfuri, joined his voice to the demand for the immediate capture and prosecution of the criminals, claiming that this is the only way to stop the tension from rising.

According to reports, Wireko will graduate from Adisadel College in 2021, however he was unable to enroll in university last year since he failed one of his papers.

According to additional reports, he recently passed the exam in question through remedial exams and was awaiting admission to the university this year when he tragically went away.
